A nurse in the western Taiwanese city of Taitung who took photographs of a patient undergoing heart surgery has triggered controversy. On March 11 the health worker posted the photos to Facebook drawing intense criticism.
Taiwan's Apple Daily News interviewed the hospital about the alleged leak of private pictures and were told the nurse took the images through a glass door, not interfering with the surgery.
The woman pulled the pictures from Facebook shortly after the scandal broke but the photos remain circulating online. She says she regrets the action and the matter is causing such stress that she is finding it hard to focus at work.
Health authorities in Taitung County say the nurse may still be fined up to nearly US$4,000 as her photography breached several regulations.
