An Indian budget airline IndiGo jet was forced to make an emergency landing at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Thursday (February 13) after a suspicious package was found in the plane's toilet.

According to the New Straits Times, the plane was carrying 145 passengers and six crew members from Singapore's Changi Airport and was bound for Chennai. It made an emergency landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 7:30 am.

A distress call was made at 7:50 am to the Selangor Fire and Rescue department, which informed the team that a crew member had discovered a package thought to contain hazardous chemicals in a toilet in the rear cabin of the aircraft.

A Fire and Rescue team, including a Hazardous Materials team was dispatched and inspected the package after the IndiGo aircraft landed, found that it contained three gold bars, weighing less than 1kg.
