Ahead of Sunday’s disputed referendum in Crimea, John Kerry and Sergei Lavrov are holding talks in London.
Speaking to reporters at the US ambassador’s residence, Lavrov welcomed a further opportunity to try to defuse tensions with the West.
‘‘I am also satisfied to have this meeting today. This is a difficult situation we are in. Many things have happened and a lots of time has been lost, so now we have to think what can be done,’‘ Lavrov said.
Despite senior Western diplomats reportedly expressing little optimism that a solution to the diplomatic crisis will be found any time soon, both the US and the EU have threatened to impose fresh sanctions on Russia should the referendum in Crimea go ahead.
euronews will have live coverage of a press conference between Lavrov and Kerry planned for 3:00 pm CET.
