Rocky bobs and weaves onto Broadway

STORY: The 1976 Oscar-winning film "Rocky," written by and starring Sylvester Stallone has now hit Broadway.

Stallone joined the cast of the two-act musical at the show's opening night in New York on Thursday (March 13) night.

The production, which first opened in Hamburg, Germany in 2012, took Stallone over 14 years to bring to the stage.

Although it may seem like this film wouldn't work with songs and dance numbers, Stallone said he has always thought the characters were very musical.

"When I was writing it I use to think about these like Marty (Martin Scorsese) and Mean Streets and West Side Story. And I always saw them as kind of poetic street characters. You know what I mean, so I thought this would be a natural - but no one else did."

At the after party, actor Andy Karl, who portrays Rocky, said he tried to make the character his own, with just a few touches from Stallone's film portrayal.
