The final moments of Steve Irwin’s life were recently described and clarified by the cameraman who was there when they happened.

Justin Lyons said that the team was about to wrap up filming for a show and was looking for a final shot – a stingray swimming away from Irwin.

That’s when they spotted an 8-foot wide ray in shallow waters and jumped in.

Camera rolling, Lyons said he was standing behind Irwin when, through the lens, he saw the attack.

According to him, the typically docile creature must have mistaken the television personality for one of its natural predators and went into attack mode.

Said Lyon, “All of a sudden it propped on its front and started stabbing wildly with its tail. Hundreds of strikes in a few seconds.”

Following the shot plan and not realizing Irwin had been hurt so badly, the cameraman followed the stingray as it swam away, then panned back to Irwin.

That’s when he saw the show host in a pool of blood, with a foot-long barb sticking from his chest.

While efforts to save his life were underway, Irwin reportedly said, “I’m dying”.
