A 5-year-old child was recently killed after he accidentally shot himself. Police were alerted of the tragic incident at a little before 5:30 in the evening on a Tuesday.
By the time deputies arrived at the residence in Nuevo, California, the boy was already deceased. The child’s grandfather was home at the time of the shooting.
"The investigation is ongoing. Investigators telling us they have not yet releaed the name of that 5-year-old that was killed, nor are they saying
if the family will be facing any charges for negligence with regard to the gun that was found." [KABC]
According to a Riverside County sheriff's official, all the evidence showed the child accidentally shot himself. Police did end up locating about 200 marijuana plants growing in the backyard of the home.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the marijuana grow operation is illegal and removed the plants from the yard.
Neighbors claimed other children also live in the house. Police did not say if the gun is legally registered. The investigation is ongoing.
