In the following dash cam video, Battle Creek, Michigan police shoot this kid, 14-year-old Nicholas King. Watch carefully. King is to the right and only briefly seen in the footage.
King was playing hide and seek with three girls around noon on Saturday, Nov. 16. Unfortunately for him, he was also carrying a toy gun.
Police answered a call that a man was seen holding a black gun and running through bushes near a party store at 240 South Washington Street.
Police rolled up to the shop, ordered the four kids to put their hands in the air, then opened fire. King was hit and ran off and was later found in grass beside the store.
Police said King pulled what looked like a large caliber handgun from his waistband.
One of King's friends said King raised his hands when told to do so and was not holding the toy gun.
The 20-year veteran officer who shot King was cleared last month of any wrongdoing in the incident. King was rushed to the hospital in serious condition but survived. He was wounded in the shoulder and underwent a six hour operation.
"I want to know what happened, and why he, why this officer did what he did to my son? Nicholas King did not deserve this," King's mother, Patricia Nelson, told WOOD-TV News 8.
