Daytona Beach residents are still in shock after a minivan ended up in the ocean. The vehicle contained a woman and three young children.
Numerous witnesses watched in terror as the lady drove the van straight into the water. Both lifeguards and onlookers ran into the ocean to save the occupants.
High, heavy waves crashed down on the auto and pulled it further out to sea. Fortunately the rescuers were able to pull the three kids from the auto as it filled with saltwater. According to one of the rescuers, the woman ‘dove out the…driver’s window’, and appears confused in video footage walking away from the car.
Everyone was rushed to shore. The female and children, aged 3, 9 and 10, all survived the ordeal. They were transported to a local hospital for a precautionary check over.
Police attempted to speak with the woman, however she was reportedly incoherent and couldn’t offer any information. It was soon determined the female is the mother of the three kids and she’s also pregnant.
According to one witness, it looked as though the woman drove into the ocean intentionally, as the van took a hard, abrupt turn towards the water. One of the children was reportedly heard yelling that their mother was attempting to kill them.
The police and the Department of Children and Families are currently investigating the incident.
