UKRAINE CRISIS SEEN BY CARTOONISTS 
The world watches as the crisis in Ukraine deepens, and cartoonists from across the globe have been posting all manner of artworks to social networks, with their takes on the current upheaval. 
For many Ukraine has become a geopolitical game of chess between Russia and western countries, the United States in particular. British artist Andy Davey foresees bloodshed as both sides dig in their heels as they try to intimidate the opponent into making mistakes. 
While some have used chess to illustrate the power play in Ukraine, others have depicted more direct confrontation. Hector Curriel for example has sketched a hockey match between Russia and the United States, with Ukraine portrayed as nothing but a puck… 
The Russian Bear is also featuring prominently in cartoons. Aggressive creatures that will do anything to defend what is theirs: in this instance, Ukraine. This drawing shows the country as a bear cub being protected by its strong and powerful mother; Russia. 
The artist behind this poster sees Russia and its president obsessed by its neighboring country. We see Vladimir Putin as Gollum from Lord of the Rings, suggesting the Russian leader has an unhealthy infatuation with the “precious” Ukraine…
