Monster giant squid caught in waters off Japan

2014-02-28 103

A monster giant squid measuring nearly thirty feet and weighing almost 440 lbs was caught by Japanese fishermen in Hyougouken, Japan on Tuesday.

The video of this unusual catch shows how they caught this supersize sea creature.

Several giant squid have been caught around the Japanese coast this past winter. Instead of being happy, Japanese fishermen fear that the squids are a bad omen and could be a sign of an upcoming earthquake.

This giant squid appeared in eight-meter-deep water while squids usually live at least 100 meters below the surface. Experts say the dark environment gives squids extremely sensitive tactile sensation. The squids may have sensed danger and fled to shallow water.

The giant squid ended up being turned into a giant sashimi platter. But, according to those who tried it, it didn't not taste so good.
