A stray leopard in India's state of Uttar Pradesh recently surprised locals and later sought refuge in a hospital room. It all started after the giant cat wandered through the town all on its own.

When residents found out there was a leopard on the loose, hundreds of them gathered to watch and take photos of the creature. That turned out to be a very bad idea.

Some of the locals were terrified, but others provoked the cat. One person was injured after getting far too close to the animal.

That resident received a nasty swipe from the leopard’s paw and was forced to go to the hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials were stationed all over the town as a safety precaution, but given the size of the crowds, it was a difficult situation to control.

To sum it up appropriately, the whole ordeal was chaotic. It was like a stampede with hundreds of people jumping over one another to get a view of the leopard.

The animal was able to escape the crowds and entered a nearby hospital. The cat was locked in a room for several hours, but again it managed to escape. It could not immediately be located but teams of wildlife experts were called in for assistance.
