Scientists discuss prospect of babies with three parents

Mice and now even a monkey have been born with three parents, born from normal paternal sperm and DNA and the mother’s egg and most of her DNA.

But any harmful genetic mutations carried in their cells were replaced by another mother’s.

Scientists are now debating if clinical human trials can begin – potentially eliminating life-threatening mutations – or if instead this would open the door to designer babies.
