The identity of Mexican drugs kingpin Joaquin 'Shorty' Guzman was publicly confirmed by Mexican authorities on Tuesday.
He's undergone DNA and forensic tests to establish that police had got their man.
Guzman is being held in a maximum security area at a jail outside the capital.
But U.S hopes of trying him on narcotics and arms trafficking charges have suffered a blow.
Guzman's lawyers have got an injunction blocking any move to extradite him.
It's unclear how long the injunction will stay in force but it raises the possibility of a legal battle that could go on for years.
Guzman's Sinaloa cartel has smuggled billions of dollars of drugs into the U.S. and fought brutal turf wars with other gangs across Mexico.
His arrest on Saturday has ended his time as one of the world's most notorious organised crime bosses but his eventual fate is far from clear.
