Etihad Airways is now under some serious scrutiny after several fires were set on a flight. Travelers who were on the plane at the time of the occurrences allege the airline exposed them to possible threats of terror.
Flight EY461 had been headed to Abu Dhabi from Melbourne. Around 3 to 4 hours after takeoff, smoke and flames could be spotted coming out of a bathroom. It was promptly extinguished but a second fire was lit afterward in another bathroom. The flight was immediately diverted to Jakarta so the incident could be looked into.
An emergency landing was made at the airport in the Indonesian capital where some passengers were required to disembark. Quick security checks were carried out, however the passengers were forced to re-board the plane due to immigration issues.
Not long after they were back in the air, another fire broke out. It was extinguished and the pilot stationed crew members right outside each of the toilets to prevent another occurrence.
That meant passengers couldn’t relieve themselves and the food service was cut off because plane staff was busy monitoring the restrooms. Thankfully the plane landed in Abu Dhabi safely.
Passengers have since taken their complaints to social media. Numerous individuals were questioned in regards to the believed-to-be intentionally set fires.
Police have launched an investigation.
