In light of the numbers of employees they’ll need in the coming years, the FAA has gone public with their search for air traffic controllers.

While they once searched for candidates with military or aviation experience, they’ve altered their requirements a bit and now ask for no prior related work history at all.

All they ask is that the applicant is a US citizen, has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, will be 31-years-old or under when training begins, and that they can pass medical and security screening.

Also preferred is the ability to speak English “clearly enough to be understood over communications equipment.”

Their goal is to fill the 10 thousand positions that will be opening over the coming decade with individuals who can add ‘depth and diversity’ to the controller community.

The open application period will only last for 2 weeks and the closure date is set for February 24th.

Before submitting yours, be aware that while in training the salary could be as low as 18 thousand dollars a year.

Among those who’ve been on the job for a while, however, the average annual pay is in excess of 100 thousand dollars.
