Brazilian photographer Rogerio Soares captures a tragic moment as a woman is killed by lightning during a trip to Guaruja, a popular seaside resort near Sao Paulo. Rosangela Biavati and her family arrived at the beach when the sun was still shining. At around 3 p.m., weather started deteriorating as a storm gathered overhead. Arionaldo Garrido, a cafe owner who witnessed the incident, said he knew something terrible had happened when he heard a loud bang and saw people running toward the sea.

According to the Daily Mail, the lightning struck Biavati as she was walking toward the sea trying to get her son and nephew out of the water. In an interview with Daily Mail, her husband, who was putting bags into the truck at the time, said that he turned around to find Biavati lying on the floor unconsciously. He was shocked for a moment but then ran over to where she was lying.

People tried to revive Biavati by administering CPR, but the efforts were in vain. In the end, they had no choice but to carry her lifeless body from the beach. According to an interview with Daily Mail, climatologist Roldofo Bonafim said that incidences of lightning happen a lot more frequently during summer in Brazil due to the increase of heat and humidity. Seaside areas provide the perfect conditions for lightning.
