Two people were badly injured when an express bus went off the road and landed in a ditch traveling from Lumut to Alor Setar in Malaysia on Thursday (January 16). At least eight other people were also hurt in the accident.
The bus, which was carrying 23 passengers, was traveling in the north-bound lane of the North-South Expressway near the 217.5-kilometre mark when the accident occurred, according to The Star Online. According to Taiping OCPD ACP Yusof Mohd Diah, the bus was trying to avoid ramming a car.
The Star Online reported the vehicle knocked into the side railing at around 1:50 p.m., skidding before landing in the ditch.
Twenty firemen were dispatched from the Taiping and Kuala Kangsar fire and rescue stations to help the passengers out of the bus and clean up the oil spill on the body of the vehicle and on the road.
The passengers who were unharmed were transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
