Rob Van Winkle, a.k.a Vanilla Ice will officially become the ‘Outstanding Citizen of the Year’ in his town.

What comes to mind when you think of the 90s mainstream rapper Vanilla Ice? Tattoos, partying, or maybe some catchy old school tunes? Well according to authorities in Wellington, Florida, he is a model citizen.

Rob Van Winkle, a.k.a Vanilla Ice will officially become the ‘Outstanding Citizen of the Year’ in his town.

On February 26th, Wellington’s chamber of commerce will host a ceremony and present the award to Van Winkle. The reasoning behind the decision to name Vanilla Ice as this year’s greatest citizen is because of his ‘spirit of giving and dedication’ to the community.

Van Winkle has lived in Wellington for the past decade and during that time has donated to numerous local charities such as Toys for Tots.

He’s also well known for filming his reality DIY program ‘The Vanilla Ice Project’ in the town he now calls home.

While his schedule could only be described as busy, the ‘Ice Ice Baby’ singer is a feature at Wellington’s yearly WinterFest. That event attracts thousands of people to his town annually.

Said the Executive Director of the community’s Chamber of Commerce “He's the ambassador of Wellington and a family man, puts kids in school here, among community, well-known, friendly.”
