STORY: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on Sunday visited the giant mausoleum where the embalmed body of his father lies in state.
North Korea's state-run television KRT showed Kim visiting the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun with top state officials. The visit was part of celebrations marking late leader Kim Jong-il's birthday.
In the video, Kim bowed deeply in front of statues of the his father Kim Jong-il and his grandfather Kim Il-Sung, who founded the communist state.
The mausoleum is dedicated to the two deceased members of the Kim clan.
North Koreans are told that Kim Jong Il was born on February 16, 1942. February 16 is called the "Day of the Shining Star" and celebrated as a national holiday in North Korea.
However, Kim's official biography is not universally regarded as reliable and many Western scholars believe he was born a year earlier.
