A woman in Poland has learned the hard way not to mess with Mother Nature. She was given a suspended sentenced of 4 months in jail for killing about 2 million bees.

Due to Poland’s privacy laws, she’s been identified only as Joanna S.

Joanna was hired in 2010 to rid one of the country’s southern regions of mosquitoes.

The insects are well known for their love of stagnant water, and due to the flooding that happened there that year, the area was full of it and them.

It’s unclear why, but the woman went ahead with a large-scale pesticide delivery plan without getting the Ministry of Health’s approval on one of the chemicals.

Shortly after the affected areas were sprayed, beekeepers reported that their hives were dying off.

In total, nearly 360 colonies perished.

Finally, years later the matter has been resolved with the courts.

Given that she was found guilty in that arena, the door for beekeepers to file civil suits for their losses has been opened.

Following the verdict one of those affected by the mass deaths said, "I hope the court decision will prevent other thoughtless environmental disasters."
