Samsung may have thought they had scored a coup in getting Hollywood action film director Michael Bay to endorse their new television screen at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, but the presentation turned to farce after Mr Bay's teleprompter failed.

Mr Bay came on stage saying: "My job as a director is that I get to dream for a living," but he quickly became flustered.

Blaming problems with his autocue, the Transformers director initially said he would "wing it", but after several awkward moments of silence, Mr Bay apologised and walked off the stage.

Writing about the incident later on his blog, he said: "Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES -- I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down -- then I walked off.

"I guess live shows aren't my thing."
