Mexican vigilantes say cartel driven out

2014-02-13 30

Mexican vigilantes claim that they, along with security forces, have liberated the city of Apatzingan from the Knights Templar cartel.

Apatzingan, the business hub for Michoacan state's rich farm belt, is the only place that farmers-turned-vigilantes can sell their crops.

Hundreds of vigilantes have joined a rural police force as part of a government initiative to drive out gangs across the state.

Al Jazeera's Adam Raney reports from Apatzingan, Mexico.
