For her fall collection at New York Fashion Week, Vera Wang offered what she called ‘dark romance’.

There was lots of black and charcoal. Tartan was big, featuring in coats, cloaks, skirts and jackets.

Wang, whose evening wear and bridal gowns are highly coveted by Hollywood A-listers, created extraordinary lace dresses, in silk and black tulle for this collection.

Insects played a big role, they appear in jewelry and clasps, and even printed on a t-shirt along with the words ‘You Bug Me’.

“There’s still the tension of boy meets girl, I mean tomboy and sensual female. There’s still the play on sheer and opaque. There’s still a toughness, but there’s still, I like to think, a sensuality,” said Wang.

There was lots of leather and lots of denim on the runway of the Diesel show, which also featured sheer tops and a lot of studs.

Looking to the future, the collection closed on silver, space-themed shapes and fabrics, each piece cleverly underpinned with the brand’s trademark rock aesthetic.

“You know it’s a lot of silver, a lot of denim, treated leather, treated in a certain style and with a lot of studs, very rock, very rock, very sexy,” said Diesel founder Renzo Rosso.
