All dogs, especially older ones need constant attention and care. Unfortunately, not all humans are capable of giving them a proper home.

Surveillance footage recently captured a man abandoning an aging chow chow.

At first glance, this doesn't seem unusual. Man out on the street with a dog. But after a few seconds pass, you can see what his hands were busy doing. Tying up the dog to a store gate.

The male left the canine right outside the Riverside Animal Hospital in Manhattan.

As he turned his back and walked away from the animal, he appeared to make the sign of a cross. On the day the dog was left behind, it was freezing cold out.

When workers at the animal hospital noticed the male canine cold and terrified, they took him in. According to veterinarian Georgia Weber, the pooch’s fur was so damaged from not being groomed that it took about four hours to shave it all off.

Weber claimed the dog started whimpering after being placed in a cage at the shelter. The canine appeared to understand he was abandoned and his owner is not coming back.

Vets estimated his age to be about 12 years old. The animal hospital is not set up to offer long term provisions. Employees are hoping someone will adopt the dog or donate funds for his care because if not, he will have to be euthanized.
