A construction crew in Seattle was hard at work digging in the city’s South Lake Union area when they came upon an odd object which turned out to be a mammoth tusk.
They were about a story and a half deep when the ancient remain was discovered.
Work was immediately halted, the area was roped off, and experts from the Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture were called in to inspect the find.
Before long, the museum representatives confirmed that the crew had unearthed an article from the ice age.
Right now, we are not sure where it's going to end up because it was found at this construction site behind me
but one thing is for sure, it's an impressive piece of history.
An exact date hasn’t yet been assigned, but mammoths haven’t roamed the land for around 10 thousand years.
As the tusk was found on private land, what happens to it is up to the owner.
The museum has offered to excavate and study it, promising access to specialists eager to do the research.
At this time it’s unknown if the property owner is considering their offer, or if they have other plans.
