Stumbling across a rat or mouse in your home is creepy enough.
A woman in Massachusetts has a much more extraordinary story to tell.

73-year-old Ginny Ballou had been lying in bed asleep. She abruptly awoke when a raccoon pounced right on top of her face.

It bit Ballou’s lip and chin. The creature latched right on and refused to let go. According to Ballou, she and the raccoon struggled for two very long minutes.

At some point during the frantic ordeal, the elderly woman was bitten on her thumbs. She was eventually able to get a hold of the phone which was on her night stand and struck the raccoon with it.

She then pushed it out of her bedroom. As soon at that was done, Ballou called police. Authorities swiftly arrived at the home.

A state Environmental Police officer captured the raccoon. It was euthanized and tested. Unfortunately the results came back positive for rabies.

Ballou required treatment at a nearby hospital for the bite wounds and was administered rabies shots. It’s believed the rabid intruder gained entry to the home through a small pet door on Ballou’s back porch.
