High tides cause flooding in Wales and Cornwall

High tides bring further flooding to areas of Wales and Cornwall, while the Met Office issue severe weather warnings for next week.

People in flood-hit communities were warned on Sunday that their lives could be at risk as strong winds and high tides brought fresh misery.

The Environment Agency issued three severe flood warnings, the highest possible, for areas along the Severn estuary, as well as 81 flood warnings and 263 flood alerts.

Pub landlord Michael Moyle had already experienced floods during the new year and had reopened his pub just last week when the rising tides hit.

"We knew that the surge was going to come, but I don't think anybody anticipated that it was going to be quite this bad," said My Moyle, whose pub is now filled with several feet of water.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings of winds of up to 80mph and heavy rain of up to 1.2in for the South West, southern England, south Wales and Northern Ireland from Monday until Wednesday.
