Hollande makes solo state visit to United States

French President Francois Hollande will be traveling solo as he heads to the U.S. for a state visit.

Hollande and his former partner Valerie Trierweiler were named on the official statement announcing the visit.

Hollande has since announced his split with her, after an alleged affair with an actress.

Dominique Moisi, a senior advisor at the French Institute for International Relations, says Hollande's solo trip is a notable change from when John F. Kennedy visited France with his wife in 1961.
