Geneva talks aimed at ending the Syrian war will focus on stopping violence, setting up a transitional governing body, and planning for national institutions and reconciliation, according to a document obtained by Reuters.
Mediator Lakhdar Brahimi says he plans to keep meeting the two sides separately for the next few days, in hopes of improving the atmosphere.
Political analyst, Saad al Mutalebi, believes the second round of talks is only taking place because of Western pressure:
“They only attend the meeting because of American pressure. Keep the dialogue open, because through dialogue, maybe you can come to a breakthrough and reaching an agreement, or reaching common grounds that different parties can meet together,” said al Mutalebi.
On the ground, aid groups say they are working hard to extend the truce to allow humanitarian corridors to remain open.
There have been reports of sporadic fighting and attacks on some convoys but around 600 people managed to leave the besieged ruins of rebel-held central Homs on Sunday.
