It was a less than glamorous royal engagement in Mallorca for Spain’s Princess Cristina, attending a hearing into her involvement in a corruption scandal.

The infanta remained tight lipped about the case which alleges she and her husband pocketed millions of euros of public money.

When asked about the couple’s business the princess apparently answered ‘I don’t know’ and ‘I fully trusted my husband’.

“She has had no privileges or immunity,” noted the princess Cristina’s lawyer emerging from the courtroom, adding that she had answered questions for over seven hours. “She has answered everyone and has answered what is her truth,” he concluded.

Outside the courtroom protesters chanted republican slogans and cheered on judge Jose Castro.

Public support for the monarchy has plummeted in the wake of the scandal, hitting a record low.

The hearing marked the first time a member of the royal family had been summoned in a criminal proceeding since the monarchy was restored in 1975.
