We all have our own ways for dealing with a pushy telemarketer. A Massachusetts man, Jim Callahan is living with the bitter aftermath after saying no to a pesky caller.
Callahan has become the victim of what authorities call a spoofing scam. It began on a recent Friday. Callahan answered his cell and was greeted by an unknown caller.
The person on the other end told Callahan they wanted to sell him pharmaceutical products. They asked for his credit card. He declined.
Two more calls soon came in. He said no yet again. A warning was issued to Callahan during the third conversation that his phone would be hijacked. Callahan didn’t believe the ultimatum was legitimate and hung up.
That threat turned out to be very real. Over the past week, the ringing has been nonstop. Callahan suspects an overseas business is using his number to robot dial thousands of people.
Upon seeing Callahan’s digits on the caller ID, the victims angrily call him back. In just one day Callahan received around 900 calls and texts.
He contacted Verizon, however there’s nothing that can be done.
