Police brutality? Rotterdam New York cops sued for breaking teen's arm

2014-02-07 3

A 16-year-old boy is suing a police department of Rotterdam, New York, for $1 million after two officers broke his arm while trying to remove him from a school bus.

It all started on the morning of October 9, 2013 in the driveway of the teen's family home. Jacob Gocheski walked onto the bus and allegedly begun making threats in an aggressive manner. That was when the bus driver and Gocheski's mom told him to get off the bus. For more than 20 minutes, both tried numerous times to get Gocheski off the bus with no luck. That's when they called the police.

The two officers had difficulty getting him to respond, so they used physical force to pull him off the bus. One of the officers locked Jacob's arm and used enough force that he snapped one of the strongest bones in the human body. The sound of the bone snapping is clearly audible in the video.

An X-ray of the teenager's left arm was released that showed a gruesome break and a shattered bone midway up the bicep.

Rotterdam Police Chief James Hamilton said a review of the incident determined that "officers followed department protocol and procedures". Meanwhile, Jacob Gocheski was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and a misdemeanor.
