A police officer in Pembroke Pines, Florida recently landed on the other side of the law. 36-year-old Kevin Burgs allegedly stole a $795 watch from a local jewelry store.
Surveillance cameras captured the cop unlawfully removing the piece from the shop. Burgs had been one of the officers who responded to the Jared jewelry store to investigate a burglary which occurred in the early morning hours.
In that case, two suspects cut a hole through the roof of the business. They then smashed display cases and stole approximately $75,000 worth of jewelry.
After the crooks got away and police were contacted, Burgs went inside the shop to look around and reportedly swiped the expensive watch left behind. Once the video footage was reviewed, Burgs was arrested and charged with grand theft.
The nine-year veteran of the department was also suspended without pay. Police are still investigating the initial robbery and are unsure if it is related to a similar case in the area just a few weeks before.
