Eight miners trapped over a kilometre underground in a South African gold mine have been rescued. Emergency workers battled a through smoke and rubble to reach the workers and bring them to the surface.
An earthquake broke ventilation and water pipes and damaged power cables which caused a fire to break out deep underground.
Nine employees remain unaccounted for at Harmony Gold’s Doornkop mine near Johannesberg. Rescuers are working to find the nine alive.
