Yelp is a popular website that people can use to review restaurants and other businesses, and now a smartphone app called Leafly allows cannabis users to review dispensaries and different strains of the plant.
Yelp is a popular website that people can use to review restaurants and other businesses, and now a smartphone app called Leafly is following suit but for the cannabis market, allowing users to review dispensaries and different strains of the plant.
Leafly began in Seattle, Washington during 2010 as a resource for medical cannabis users in the 20 states where it is legal for patients.
Use of the app has grown since the states of Colorado and Washington legalized cannabis for recreational use.
The app allows users to search around 650 cannabis strains based on different characteristics like flavor or effects, and find the dispensary nearest to their current location.
Brendan Kennedy of Privateer Holdings, a marijuana industry-focused private equity firm that purchased Leafly in 2011 said: “We’re seeing for the first time ever a consumer-driven market for cannabis. You can go into the dispensary and make choices... They’re finally able to comparison shop.”
Leafly reportedly uses less counterculture references or cannabis related imagery to entice its users, and sticks to a neutral visual design and layout.
