Plans are underway to perfect a drone service that will deliver their brew to ice fishermen camped out on nearby lakes.
The Stephens Point, Wisconsin-based company acknowledges that online retail giant Amazon recently considered the same thing, only to be faced with mountains of challenges.
Due to its location and scope, their drone delivery service will not face some of the more debilitating ones.
For example, they’re not planning the service for inner-city drops, so navigating between tall buildings and pedestrians is not a concern.
Further, the wide-open spaces that fill their territory will allow them to fly below the FAA limits.
Lakemaid’s president said they’ve already done testing on smaller lakes and will soon begin service trials on larger ones.
Also needing more consideration is how they’re going to verify that the beer’s recipient is of legal drinking age.
As the FAA doesn’t allow small drones to be used for commercial purposes at this time and won’t be discussing the matter further until next year, the brewery has plenty of time to hammer out the details.
