Alaskan Fisherman Bitten by Sea Lion

A 19-year-old fisherman on a vessel in Alaska recently survived an attack by a sea lion.

Sea lions are typically not thought of as dangerous, aggressive animals.

A 19-year-old fisherman on a vessel in Alaska might disagree with that notion after having recently experienced a sea lion attack.

Luckily the man only encountered minor injuries. According to reports, he had been offloading fish when the sea lion jumped from the water and attempted to nip his buttocks.

The male stumbled forward into the vessel. Fortunately he was wearing heavy rain gear at time which helped prevent serious injury.

In the end, the male was more shocked than anything else. He declined receiving medical treatment, although he did have some abrasions.

It’s doubtful anyone provoked the creature beforehand. Instead authorities suspect the sea lion was accustomed to seeing people around and therefore had no fear.

A National Marine Fisheries Service spokesperson stated “it isn’t unheard of for big and powerful wild animals to habituate to humans, and see us as a food source.”

Following the incident, troopers have asked fisherman to ensure waste is disposed of properly.
