Hodges Funeral Home, located in Naples, Florida, has installed a unique addition, in the hopes of comforting family members that are aged 21 and over.
The facility has become home to a wine room. Seth Minso, the funeral home director and general manager, wanted the addition to help families celebrate the deceased’s life rather than focusing solely on the loss. The extra room, which is considered a reception area allows just that; only a few short steps away from the deceased.
The fact that Naples’ residents are typically huge fans of wine boosted the decision to install the room, despite some criticism. Minso opposed the negativity speaking on behalf of families.
He said “They still want to have a party, still want to celebrate and have the means to mourn their loved ones but they don't want to do it over a person's body…Our goal is to make people comfortable, almost like they weren't even in a funeral home.”
