Germany hit hardest in planned Airbus job cuts

2014-01-27 2

The equivalent of almost 5,300 jobs are set to be cut at Airbus as the company’s defence and space divisions are combined into one unit.

The total is slightly less than was first announced last December when plans for the restructuring were unveiled.

The axe will fall most heavily in Germany, a union source revealed after a detailed internal briefing of the company’s works council.

It’s reported the cuts will involve 2,438 jobs in Germany including just over one thousand at the Manching Eurofighter combat jet factory.

Around 1,400 are set to go in France. An Airbus Group spokesman declined to comment.
