The Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has extended sympathies to the polio workers who risk their lives for administering polio drops to children. Expressing his concerns on the attacks on polio workers, Mr Hussain said that nine polio workers had been killed in Karachi in various incidents in recent months. He regretted that they were targeted in Charsadda District even today.
Mr Hussain said that the polio workers were risking their lives for a meagre amount of Rs 200 per day in order to administer polio vaccine to the children. He said it was unfortunate that the government was not taking any step to give them protection forcing them to call off their campaign against polio throughout the country.
Mr Hussain offered condolences to the families of the polio workers who lost their lives and those who were injured. He said that the government should give protection to the polio workers instead of making verbal claims.
Mr Hussain urged on the government to take concrete action against the elements that were attacking polio workers, pilgrims and carrying out bomb blasts in mosques, cantonment areas.
