The House of Windsor officially began on July 17th of 1917 by the ruling king's order. King George V felt that it would be a wise political move to seperate his family from their German ties. Thus the decision was made to do away with the house of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and introduce Great Britain to the House of Windsor.
