Carrying Turkish Airlines' flag to 8096 m height - Belgian Gasherbrum Climbing Team

2014-01-19 49

TURKISH AIRLINES' flag has been carried by the Belgian Gasherbrum team to the two very top points of this double header:
the quest for two 8000m peaks: Gasherbrum II, 8035m and Gasherbrum I, 8069m,
and it was the only sponsor flag that could reach that height.

Gasherbrum, located in the Karakoram region of the Himalayas, is often claimed to mean "Shining Wall"; but in fact it comes from "rgasha" (beautiful) + "brum" (mountain) in Balti, so it means "beautiful mountain". Gasherbrum I, also known as Hidden Peak, is the 11th highest peak and Gasherbrum II is the 13th-highest mountain on Earth.
