With another deadline looming at midnight Wednesday for a new spending bill, Democrat and Republican negotiators have come up with one which aims to avoid another US government shut down.
The $1.1 trillion plan boosts funding levels slightly for military and domestic programmes but not for “Obamacare” health reforms.
Both houses claim the deal will eliminate the economic instability caused by Congress’ recent funding battles.
The spending measure fills in the details of a budget agreement passed in December in the aftermath of a 16-day shutdown of many government agencies in October.
Even so a three-day stop-gap funding extension will still be needed to ensure the bill’s successful passage.
