In this guitar lesson, our female teacher Alejandra will teach you a cool acoustic solo from a great song called "Learning to live" by Dream Theater. Although this band has usually difficult technical songs, today´s solo is a pretty easy to learn. We always recommend guitarists to play slow and easy leads before trying to shred. Lead guitar has an endless of possibilities, so let´s starts practicing!
Dream Theater is a progressive metal band formed in 1985, in the U.S. The original members John Petrucci, John Myung, and Mike Portnoy started to play under the name Majesty while they attended Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts. But they dropped out of their studies to concentrate on the band, eventually called Dream Theater. In September 8 of 2010, Portnoy left the band so the band started the auditions for a new drummer. Mike Mangini was announced as the new permanent drummer on April 29, 2011.
So, the example of today´s lesson is a nice guitar solo in F# minor and it´s basically a melody with some cool scales runs. If you dont have a acoustic guitar with nylon strings, you can just play it with your electric guitar!
Ok, hope this helps and don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style. That is all for today...
