Residents in the Midwest United States are dealing with a blast of Arctic air. And with it comes the coldest temperatures they've seen in two decades.
Indiana governor Mike Pence reminded people not to be deceived by the sunshine:
(SOUNDBITE) (English) INDIANA GOVERNOR MIKE PENCE SAYING:
"Wind gusts are expected to be in excess of 40 miles (64 kph) per hour today. We have snowfall that's obvious to most Hoosiers, up to 14 inches (35 cm) in the north, 15 (38 cm) central, 8 (20 cm) inches in the south. But today we're dealing with extreme cold temperatures."
Meteorologists said temperatures were life-threatening in some places.
Sub-freezing temperatures were recorded in Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis.
To fight the arctic chill, some residents in Texas went shopping for pipe installation:
