GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Surveillance video from a Rapid bus captured the seemingly calm moments before a man pulled a gun, shot at and missed another passenger as others on the bus rush away from the gunfire on New Year's Eve.
Video footage obtained by the Grand Rapids Press/MLive through a Freedom of Information Act request shows multiple angles of the shot being fired at the back of a bus during a stop at South Division Avenue and Delaware Street SE in Grand Rapids. The shooting occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.
Investigators are reviewing the footage, but say no one was injured and that they have not identified the intended victim.
The man who fired the shot and an apparent friend fled and are also unidentified, police say.
It's unclear from the video what prompted the shooting. From one camera's view, men are seen casually talking at the back of the bus. The target, seated in the back row, waves or make a motion with his hand prior to the shooting. The men don't seem to be arguing.
