A mother in Maryland has been accused of leaving her young child alone for more than 8 hours while she went inside a local casino. The 4-year-old had been left inside a car parked in the gambling establishment’s parking garage.
Anne Arundel County Police were called to the Maryland Live! Casino on New Year’s Eve at approximately 6:30 pm after the child was spotted unattended in the vehicle.
They spoke to the child and aside from being hungry and cold, the little one was said to be in good health with no obvious signs of physical abuse.
As crews were preparing to take the child to the nearest hospital as a precaution, the mother, 24-year-old Alicia Brown returned to the vehicle. Prior to her showing up at the scene, police had learned she arrived at the casino at 10 in the morning and the child had been left alone the entire time.
There was no food in the vehicle and temperatures were freezing on the day in question. Brown was arrested and charged with second-degree child abuse and neglect of a minor. The child was released into the custody of a relative.
