First winter storm of the year brings blizzard conditions

The Big Apple is digging out from the first winter storm of the year.

Blizzard conditions are slamming the Northeast with strong winds, lots of snow, and bitterly cold temperatures.

SOUNDBITE: ANGELO, GOING TO WORK, SAYING:

"I think it's actually kind of cool. It's like the first snowstorm and I'm originally from Arizona, so this is always kind of fun for me, you know. But yeah, I think it's great. It is a little chilly. I'm not gonna lie, but why not just put on some snow boots and you're good to go."

More than 6 inches of snow blanketed New York City snarling traffic and making it harder to get around.

SOUNDBITE: ELIZABETH, GOING TO WORK, SAYING:

"I did expect snow, but not like this. I love snow to death, but this is not what I'm asking for and not when I'm going to work."

Dangerous conditions forced New York to declare a state of emergency.
