In this video, Dr. Iagulli of Trinity Orthopedics discusses partial joint and total joint replacement.

Transcript:
When a patient undergoes a joint replacement for arthritis in the knee, there are several options that we have, ranging from a partial knee replacement to a total joint replacement. Partial replacements are done in the setting of an isolated either medial or lateral compartment arthritis where the remainder of the joint cartilage is in good condition. The benefits of this procedure involve a smaller incision, a quicker recovery time, and a more normal or natural feel for the joint replacement. However, it's not very common to have only one compartment involved in the knee, and oftentimes, multiple compartments or a majority of the cartilage is damaged in the knee. These are patients that benefit from a total joint replacement and have excellent results for these implants.
