In this guitar lesson, Jon MacLennan will teach you a cool bebop lick in the style of Charlie Parker, so if you want to get into jazz and bebop guitar I really
recommend you to check out this lesson.
So, what is jazz bebop style? Bebop or bop is a style of jazz characterized by fast tempo, instrumental virtuosity and improvisation based on the combination of harmonic structure and melody. It was developed in the early and mid-1940s. This style of jazz ultimately became synonymous with modern jazz, as either category reached a certain final maturity in the 1960s. Charles "Charlie" Parker, Jr was born in the U.S in 1920 and passed away in 1955. He was a jazz saxophonist and composer also known as "Bird".
Parker was a highly influential jazz solo=ist and a leading figure in the development of bebop. Alright, the example of today´s lesson like we already said, it is a bebop line over the most common jazz chord progression, the II V I. This is like the ABC of Jazz music.
In this case, the lick is in C major, so the chords would be Dm7, G7 and Cmaj7.
Ok, hope this helps and don´t forget to come up with your own ideas, which is the best advice for starting to find `your´ unique sound and style. That is all for today...
